Athletic Therapy

The Centre for Sport and Wellness (Building 8) will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9 for waterworks maintenance. We will re-open Monday, August 10.

Our athletic therapists are here to help you return to work and play as quickly as possible. We provide comprehensive assessments and personalized treatments to prevent injuries, manage acute and chronic conditions, and support your recovery after surgery.

Services

Our services include:

Myofascial release, soft tissue release and joint mobilizations
Electrotherapeutic modalities including interferential current therapy, ultrasound and muscle stimulation
Pre- and post-operative care
Strength and conditioning for injury prevention, rehabilitation and performance
Pilates for spinal rehabilitation
Concussion management, including assessment, treatment and return to play support
Access to physicians and sport psychologists through MacEwan University Health Centre

Jennifer Dunn

Bachelor of Arts, Kinesiology and Health Science; Master of Arts, Kinesiology; CATA Certified Athletic Therapist

Jennifer serves as the head athletic therapist for MacEwan’s Griffins Athletics, bringing a dynamic blend of academic training and hands-on experience to the team. Graduating from York University, she has worked with athletes across various sports, from club and university levels to national and professional leagues. Jennifer combines her expertise in strength and conditioning with her background in Pilates to keep Griffins athletes in peak condition. She provides care that not only addresses injuries but also helps prevent them, ensuring players are ready to perform their best all season long.

Paul Trevor

Paul joined MacEwan in 2018 as an Athletic Therapist for the Griffins hockey team and has since become a key member of the athletic therapy team, now supporting varsity athletes, students, staff, and the wider community. After earning his Bachelor of Science at Trent University, Paul pursued Athletic Therapy at Sheridan College, gaining valuable experience through a memorable year-long internship with the Raptors 905 (G-League). His expertise has been recognized with a Merit Award from the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (2019) and an Alberta Health Services EMS Citizen Award (2022). Paul enjoys helping clients reach their goals and discover their potential for an active, healthy lifestyle.

Adrienne Dorn

Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences-Honours, Athletic Therapy; CATA Certified Athletic Therapist

As an Athletic Therapist for Griffins athletes, students, staff, and the community, Adrienne brings a wealth of expertise and experience to her role. A proud Sheridan College grad, she has honed her skills in diverse settings—from private clinics to university sports teams and high school athletics. Since 2012, she has served as an Athletic Therapy consultant for the Edmonton Oil Kings and is also a certified first aid instructor with the Canadian Red Cross. Adrienne is passionate about empowering people to crush their recovery goals, whether they’re aiming to return to the field, gym, or workplace.

Insurance Coverage

Many health benefit plans cover athletic therapy, either directly or through a health spending account. Before booking an appointment, please check with your insurer to confirm your coverage details. Some plans may require a prescription or doctor’s referral.
