Rec leagues are open to all genders—men, women, two-spirit, trans, non-binary. Participants can join according to their self-identified gender.
OPEN LEAGUE – This league has no gender ratios.
MIXED LEAGUE – This league has specific gender ratios, limiting the number of self-identified men on each team, while the remaining spots are open to any gender.
Leagues with eight or more teams will start the season in randomly assigned tiers and will be re-seeded after three weeks of play to keep the league balanced and competitive.
A forfeit happens when a team informs us in advance that they will be unable to meet the minimum player or gender requirements for their league.
When a team forfeits:
If your team is unable to meet the player or gender requirements, please email Liv at hellandl2@macewan.ca. Failure to notify and failure to show up at your game will result in a default.
Weekday Lunch League: Before 9 a.m. on game day.
Weekday Evening League: Before 12 p.m. on game day.
Weekend Leagues: Before 12 p.m. on the Friday before the game.
A default occurs when a team has fewer than the minimum required players at the start of the game and didn’t inform us beforehand, or when a team quits the game for any reason.
When a team defaults:
A sub is a player who joins a team for a single game. Teams can add subs anytime after the first week of games. Subs can play up to two games in a season; after that, they are considered a new player and must pay a pro-rated league fee. Subs must have played at least one regular season game to be eligible to play on a team in playoffs.
All subs and/or new players must complete a roster form and waiver before playing.
Subs will be charged a drop in fee to play in the game that week.
Spirit Ratings evaluate a team's sportsmanship and commitment to fair, fun games. Each game, the Rec staff give spirit points to each team.
A defaulted game results in a Spirit Rating of 1 for the defaulting team and 3 for their opponent.
A forfeited game results in a Spirit Rating of 2 for the forfeiting team and 3 for their opponent.
